Sometimes nice guys finish first and also basically everyone has a secret.
We already knew not to judge a book by its cover...but boy howdy, did the revelation that Mayor Nicky was an Indogene drive home the point that, in the post-alien apocalypse world, nothing is as it may seem at first blush.
Nice Guys Finish First
Alak may seem a little snotty, but his love for Christie is obvious, and paid off for him here in securing Rafe's backing for the wedding. Meanwhile, Tommy's continued kindness seems to be winning Irisa's heart. Even in the hard, cold world of Defiance, goodness gets the girl.
Part With Tradition
It's strange to think that something as simple as whether Christie would wear the traditional Castithan telo could derail such an important wedding...and yet, it almost did. Fortunately, Stahma realized that some things are more important than old customs...even if Datak may be taking the lesson a little hard.
Don't Let It Get To Your Head
Nicolette felt like she had it all figured out: She'd killed and stashed Hunter Bell. She'd gotten her hands on her precious artifact. And she'd concealed her nature as an Indogene under cover. Unfortunately, her overconfidence was her downfall, as it blossomed into megalomania and led Yewll to have no choice but to put down her former partner.
One of our favorite moments in the episode was seeing a flashback of Rafe and Datak...working together. It seems the early history of Defiance made for some strange partnerships, as moments of crisis often do.
