What a Tangled Web
At times, this season, Stahma has shown herself to be a master manipulator, but her affair with Kenya - and its messy, murderous end - demonstrates that even the savviest of schemers can get in over their head, to the point at which something as extreme as murder may be the only way out.
Politics IS War By Other Means
Colonel Marsh uttered this famous phrase last episode, but he proved he understood it in the finale by using Datak's election as an entree into total domination of Defiance.
Be Careful What You Wish For
Datak learned this one all too powerfully when getting into bed with the Earth Republic helped him win the election...and opened the door for his being used as a pawn by Marsh and the powers that be for the takeover of the town. No telling where his murder of his former manipulator will lead from here.
How to Lose Gracefully
When Amanda lost the election for mayor, she could have railed, and rebelled, and maybe even called the results into question (given Datak's track record, skullduggery was not out of the realm of possibility). And yet, the former Madame Mayor grinned and bore it...an attitude that we could see coming in handy under E-Rep rule.
Can't Fight It
Irisa spent much of the season trying to run away from her destiny, whether it was coming from Irzu, from some crazy Votan cult, or miscellaneous. At last, however, she was faced with a lesson we all must learn: Sometimes, you have to face your fate standing tall, especially if it means saving someone you love.
