Kenya gets kidnapped and the Bioman returns! Get the skinny on "A Well Respected Man."
We open our episode with Nolan and Irisa busting some Castithans (driving a cadillac. Just because the alien apocalypse happened doesn't mean you can't travel in style). Seems they're transporting illegal arms.
Seems that Datak is actually behind the illegal arms transport and busts into the town council meeting to have them use their power to get Nolan to drop his charges. Since the stasis net protecting Defiance was destroyed back in Episode 1, Datak's been trading with Votanis Collective (think of it like the alien U.N.) to help the town. Amanda is NOT pleased, especially because the rest of the council knew and didn't tell her.
Amanda walks in on Grant and Kenya, who just finished knocking boots (also Kenya wears a duct tape bra, which is either highly effective, insanely painful or both). She's not pleased (and maybe a little jealous) and in general is mad and judgy with her sister for being a Madam.
Shortly after, one on Kenya's working girls, Tirra, tweaks out and runs off. Kenya goes after her, but they end up clashing with a Bioman, who kidnaps them.
Ulysses brings the unconscious girls to his employer, Nico, who makes Tirra's tweaking look like someone who just came back from a meditation retreat. This guy is messed up on something bad. What is with this episode and drugs? Just say no!
Meanwhile, Amanda realizes Kenya is missing. She and Nolan head to Datak's, since Kenya was last seen with the Bioman Ulysses (who works for Datak). Datak refuses to help them, claiming Amanda has never shown him respect.
Stahma, ever scheming, takes Amanda aside later that night and tells her Datak would gladly help locate Kenya if he was shown respect by Amanda - in the form of the vacant seat in the town council. Amanda is forced to comply.
Back in the crashed Stratocarrier they're being held in, Kenya and Tirra try to escape but come across some Volge (the armor covered, gun toting aliens from Episode 1).
Except for, they don't. The Volge and the escape attempts were all hallucinations. Kenya wakes up and finds she's being drugged up to increase her fear, and thus her adrenaline - which Nico is farming to make a potent drug called Adreno (which he's hopped up on).
Kenya is not having this, so she disconnects her tubes, and offs Nico. Ulysses the Bioman is just about to take care of her when Nolan arrives to the rescue, killing Ulysses.
All cleaned up, Kenya tries to help the troubled Tirra (is she still on drugs or just naturally tweaky) by giving her a medal that Kenya's mother left her before she died - the medal of St. Finnegan. Tirra, who apparently grew up with nuns, tells her there's no St. Finnegan. Kenya heads straight to Amanda, since big sis was the one that was with their mother when she died and gave her the medal.
We flash back to NYC during the Pale Wars. There, we see pre-teen Amanda scavenging for food with her mother. Both are having terrible hair days. When a new round of bombings start, mom tells Amanda they need to head uptown - but Amanda won't leave Kenya, who is blocks away. The mother, unwilling to risk her own life to go get Kenya, basically tells Amanda "good luck" and takes off!
Amanda, who found a necklace on a dead soldier named Finnegan, goes back for Kenya. She concocts a lie that their mother died a hero, and left this "St. Finnegan" medal for Kenya. Amanda's officially the best sister in the world.
Cut to present day, where Kenya's reeling from learning what a bitch her mom is and also what her sister did for her. The two siblings hug and all is well with the world.
That is, until Datak takes his seat on the town council, thanks to Amanda's deal with Stahma. Datak in a position of power? This is not good.
Outside the meeting, Nolan observes Stahma weaving some Castithan garment (shades of Madame Defarge!). "I've had my eyes on the wrong snake," he says. "You're very sweet," is all she replies.
While all this is going on, Quentin finally stands up to his dad for favoring dead older brother Luke. Quentin has some major Jan Brady syndrome. Rafe responds by opening up and revealing the weirdo artifact he found in Luke's room. They've figured out it came from one of the deepest parts of the L7 shaft.
Father and son head underground to where the artifact was found. There, they find bizarre cave drawings that clearly pre-date the finding of Defiance (heck, the founding of St. Louis) - including a depiction of a creature holding something very similar to an artifact. What's going on?
