Nolan's past resurfaces, Datak's in trouble and....the six-legged monkey crawl? Get all the story on "Brothers in Arms."
We start on a Castithan man - we'll soon learn his name is Pol Madis - running through the street, pursued by a man with a gun. Despite setting off an explosive, Pol is caught.
Nolan, figuring correctly that a guy running around with a gun and a Castithan blowing things up is a problem, catches up to the bounty hunter-type. Turns out they know each other. He's an old war buddy, Eddie Braddock.
Nolan catches Amanda up on the whole Pol Madis situation. Amanda plans on giving Pol to the Earth Republic in exchange for land rights for Defiance's upcoming maglev railroad. Nolan wants Amanda to let Eddie give Pol to Earth Republic (so Eddie can get the bounty).
The E-Rep official, Connor Lang, is obviously an old flame of Amanda's (you could cut the sexual tension with a knife). Amanda holds her ground and, using the info she got from Nolan earlier, offers up Pol Madis in exchange for the rights to some land for the railroad.
In jail, Doc Yewll checks out Pol. He mentions he was "impressed with what she did" during the Pale Wars with the "Biodyne project." It's enough to turn the already pale Yewll sheet white. We've never seen Yewll express emotion (well, other than annoyance), but she's downright scared about this coming out. Pol hints at needing a certain substance - presumably for an escape.
Obviously Doc complied, because next thing we know there's a giant hole in the prison wall and Pol's hitting up Datak to get out of town. Datak breaks cardinal TV rule #62 when he accepts food from a mad scientist - it's poisoned, and Pol has this super scientific ring that increases Datak's pain at his whim.
Thanks to Pol's power ring, Datak's forced to shuttle Pol out of town. Nolan and Eddie catch up with them, and for once Datak's actually glad to see him.
Eddie and Nolan have a huge fight, and Eddie considers turning Nolan into Varus Soleptor (dude from the game that has a bounty on Nolan). Just then, the Earth Republic arrives. Eddie takes the blame for killing Pol. Nolan's shocked at Eddie's selflessness (Eddie cites that Irisa needs Nolan).
Amidst all this Madis madness, Kenya realizes she's developing feelings for Nolan. And it's screwing up her business, since all those oooky feelings are interfering with her ability to sleep with all sorts of different species for cash. She vents to Amanda about it. It's also important to note that Kenya wears glitter eyeshadow in this episode.
Doing what's best for business (and what she THINKS is best for her heart), Kenya breaks things off with Nolan.
Nicky sees Quentin studying the artifact - the one she has nefarious plans for - and orders her sidekick Mr. Birch to retrieve it.
When Rafe hears that Quentin has been talking to Nicky, he freaks (what's UP with that?). He wants Quentin to dump the artifact in the mine and forget about it.
Quentin, who has been seeing visions of his dead brother Luke (is he crazy, or is this the artifact at work?), catches Mr. Birch searching through his things. Egged on by "Luke," Quentin kills Birch.
Quentin takes the body and disposes of it in the mines - but not the artifact. He's hanging onto that. What's the deal with this thing?
