Up until Stahma and Datak entered the polling place, we still weren't sure whether the candidate knew about his wife's dalliance with Kenya, or what he thought about it. His whispered threat just before she entered the voting booth, however, drove home just how precarious Stahma's position was...and what she stood to lose.
Quite honestly, we had no idea who was going to take the mayoral election, even up to the point at which Datak was announced as the winner. The suspense! And the surprise, as we really thought Amanda was going to pull it out at the last minute. Alas, for Ms. Rosewater's political career...and the future of Defiance.
Poison is Queen
Stahma kills Kenya
We kind of figured the Stahma/Kenya affair wouldn't have a tidy ending...but we certainly didn't see the proprietor of the NeedWant being poisoned as the resolution. And it was so creepy! "Pretty little human," indeed.
Whatever the Kaziri is (A ship? An artifact? Something else?), Irisa's connection to it has been a major plot point this season, so seeing her finally reach it and quite literally nose-dive into her destiny made for a powerful moment...all the more so because it meant the resurrection of a recently-deceased Nolan.
The E-Rep Moves In
When Datak got into bed with the Earth Republic and then won the election, we knew that was bad news for Defiance. But we didn't know how bad it was going to be until the final scene of the episode, in which Nolan saw E-Rep troops taking control of the town. Where will this lead for Season 2? We can't wait to find out!
